As a young art student, Agustí Puig learned this craft at diferent artists’ studios and at the art schools Escola Massana and Cercle Artístic Sant Lluc in Barcelona, Agusti Puig subsequent work and career is the story of …an autodidact.
His first solo exhibitions were in his hometown. He soon started to exhibit in Barcelona (Galeria René Metràs), Madrid (Galeria Egam) and Valencia (Galeria Luis Adelantado), iand subsequently at other galleries in these cities.
He has also exhibited in Girona, Lleida, Palma de Mallorca, Ourense, Vigo, Salamanca, Andorra, Lisbon, London, Paris and other cities in France, Germany, Japan and the United States.
The Fundació Vila Casas gave him the honourof inaugurating the tenporary exhibition rooms at the Museu Palau Solterra in Torroella de Montgrí and at Espais Volart in Barcelona
His first participation in a group exhibition was at the Biennale de la Méditerranée in Torino and Thessaloniki and his work was also selected for the Muestra de Arte Joven 1987 of the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
He has also participated in other group exhibitons in Evry Aire Libre – Art contemporain in France, in Espai Palo Alto in Barcelona (1990) and in contemporary art fairs such as Arco and Estampa (Madrid), Artissima (Torino), London Fine Art Fair, Art Miami, Washington Art DC and Chicago Art Fair.
Agustí Puig focuses on painting and especially large format works. But he also creates ceramics and sculptures. He has a passion for etchings and is fortunate to be able to call on the expertise of the printing master Joan Roma. Agusti maintains an interest in all aspects of graphic design and has created among others a poster and a postage stamp for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and a poster for Barcelona’s Festa de la Mercè, a poster for the bullfighter “maestro“José Tomás and for the Econometric Society.
Fundació Vila Casas houses the most important collection of his work in a permanent exhibition at Museu Can Framis in Barcelona. Other relevant collectors are Museu de Montserrat, Fundació Banc Sabadell, Fundació La Caixa, Il·lustre Col·legi d’Advocats de Sabadell and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Agustí Puig’s work is also collected by many involved in the worlds of Arts: musicians, dancers, actors and theatre and cinema directors, with whom he has also had the pleasure of sharing some of their inspiring creations.
