Karel Appel

This famous Dutch painter, and founder of the CoBra movement, is widely known for his abstract, and sometimes semi-figurative, works containing thick and vibrant colors. Heavily inspired by primitive art and children’s drawings, his works contains an element of experimentation and expressiveness that sets him apart from his contemporaries.  Some of the public collections holding his works include The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum de Fundatie in The Netherlands, and Montreal’s very own Museum of Fine Arts.
